RC&D Hosts Children's "Farmer for a Day" Workshops

Photo: A painted sawhorse becomes a "cow" for a milking demonstration for a group of childrenAs part of the Western Reserve Resource Conservation and Development's Food, Land, and People project, four "Farmer for a Day" workshops were conducted. Boys and girls, ages 7-12, became farmers for a day at the Spring Hill Farm Market in Ashtabula County. Ninety students from four Ohio counties participated in hands-on activities to learn more about our connection with the land.

The Western Reserve RC&D partnered with three soil and water conservation districts, the Spring Hill Orchards and Farm Market, and the Project Food, Land and People organization to conduct four one-day camps for kids. Parent feedback has been very positive and many commented that they were glad a workshop like this exists because children are not getting this type of information anywhere else.
