Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the ranking dates
for the On-Farm Energy, Organic, Seasonal High Tunnel and Air Quality
conservation initiatives. All four initiatives offer technical and
financial assistance through the Natural Resources Conservation
Service’s (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program. NRCS
accepts applications for financial assistance on a continuous basis
throughout the year. There will be three ranking periods for the
Organic, On-Farm Energy and Seasonal High Tunnel initiatives, all ending
on February 3, March 30 and June 1, 2012. Ranking periods for the Air
Quality Initiative end February 3 and March 30, 2012. |

Ohio State Conservationist Terry Cosby announced today the availability
of Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program (WREP) funding to enter into
agreements with eligible partners to carry out high priority wetland
protection, restoration and enhancement activities on eligible lands. "Nationally,
up to $17 million is available through General WREP for wetlands
restoration and enhancements on a competitive basis,” said Cosby.
“Eligible partners are encouraged to submit WREP proposals to our state
office by February 10, 2012. | |

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is
recruiting students to participate in our Student Temporary Employment
Program (STEP) for the summer of 2012 (not-to exceed 3 months). NRCS
plans to fill positions in the Soil Conservation, Soil Science, and
Engineering series. Applications accepted through March 2, 2012. |

The U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Dave White
announced that proposals for conservation projects addressing
water quality and wetland conservation in the Mississippi River Basin
are due to NRCS by March 19, 2012. Accepted projects would support
conservation efforts already underway on agricultural operations in the
basin, improve the overall health of the Mississippi River and help
reduce hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico. |
