SUBJECT: FNM – LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS FOR WOMEN SEMINAR

Purpose. To announce upcoming leadership seminar and solicit requests to attend.

State Office Staff Requests to Attend to State Office Supervisor by August 14, 2008
ASTC-FOs and SO Supervisors Submit Names to Jennifer Chen by August 15, 2008

A “Leadership and Management Skills for Women Conference” is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Blacklick Woods Metro Park, 6975 East Livingston Avenue, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. The conference begins at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 3:00 p.m. The conference overview is enclosed

This conference will include topics such as:

• Avoid missed opportunities to address conflict directly—like a leader
• Get over feeling hesitant to speak up in meetings
• Negotiate unreasonable requests, deadlines, and demands
• Handle unacceptable behavior and performance—regardless of the cause
• Develop your own system for motivating employees and teams
• And much more!

This seminar is open to all current Ohio NRCS employees. There is no registration charge for this conference. Attendance on government time and use of government transportation are authorized.

Due to budget restraints, per diem will only be paid if the duty station is outside a 100-mile radius of the conference site. Each request will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Requests for approval of per diem should be forwarded to your respective Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations. For those approved for overnight lodging, a block of rooms has been reserved for the night of August 20 at the Country Inn and Suites by Carlson, 2806 Taylor Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068 at the rate of $90 plus tax (single room) (Maximum lodging $101; MIE $49). To obtain the government rate, ask for the "USDA-NRCS" block of rooms. Reservations should be confirmed by calling (614) 861-8888 no later than August 15, 2008.

Field staff and State office staff are to submit requests to attend to your respective ASTC-FO or State office supervisor. ASTC-FOs and State office supervisors are to submit names of those to attend to Jennifer Chen no later than August 15, 2008.
