The Little Muskingum Watershed Association recently held the
2008 Fall Foliage Tour in Eastern Washington County. The tour is in its 19th
year and features the scenic beauty of the rolling hills of southeast Ohio,
including areas of the Marietta Unit - Wayne National Forest.
Buckeye Hills RC&D worked closely with the watershed
association in the early 1990s to get the fall foliage tour organized and
implemented. Small business owners, church groups, and other organizations use
this annual event as a fundraising activity and income opportunity. Many of the
stops offer regionally made crafts and locally prepared food. One stop showcased
an apple orchard, and according to the owner, he had very successful sales of
cider, apples, and other items.
Several thousand people took part in this year’s weekend tour that not only
had beautiful weather, but near peak fall color. Events such as this offer
excellent photo opportunities, especially when you remember to take the camera
with you.
