Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI)

The Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative is a voluntary program established to foster conservation partnerships that focus technical and financial resources on conservation priorities in watersheds of special significance and other geographic areas of environmental sensitivity.

Two Ohio CCPI Proposals Funded in 2006

Project Applicant:  ODNR Division of Soil and Water Conservation
Project Description:
  CCPI conservation priorities for terrestrial and freshwater aquatic wildlife habitat within the St. Joseph Watershed (Ohio, Indiana, Michigan) are addressed in this project.  The primary objective is to develop a local implementation plan to address habitat protection and enhancement of endangered species, restoration of wetlands and riparian corridor within the watershed by 2007.  Livestock nutrient management will also be addressed by further developing and supporting existing local efforts aimed a producer education and outreach.

Applicant:  Morgan Soil and Water Conservation District
Project Description:
  CCPI conservation priorities for livestock nutrient management and terrestrial and freshwater aquatic wildlife habitat for predetermined sites within the 14-digit Wolf Creek Watershed will be addressed in this project.  The primary objective is to implement comprehensive nutrient management plan development and implementation, sustainable animal agriculture systems, and animal waste utilization standards in nutrient management.  In addition, a locally-led producer team will address the priorities identified through the qualitative habitat evaluation index and will conduct testing and monitoring in order to assess innovative conservation technologies.
