Two Ohio CCPI Proposals Funded in 2006
Project Applicant: ODNR Division of Soil and Water
Conservation
Project Description: CCPI conservation priorities for terrestrial and
freshwater aquatic wildlife habitat within the St. Joseph Watershed (Ohio,
Indiana, Michigan) are addressed in this project. The primary objective is
to develop a local implementation plan to address habitat protection and
enhancement of endangered species, restoration of wetlands and riparian corridor
within the watershed by 2007. Livestock nutrient management will also be
addressed by further developing and supporting existing local efforts aimed a
producer education and outreach.
Applicant: Morgan Soil and Water Conservation District
Project Description: CCPI conservation priorities for livestock nutrient
management and terrestrial and freshwater aquatic wildlife habitat for
predetermined sites within the 14-digit Wolf Creek Watershed will be addressed
in this project. The primary objective is to implement comprehensive
nutrient management plan development and implementation, sustainable animal
agriculture systems, and animal waste utilization standards in nutrient
management. In addition, a locally-led producer team will address the
priorities identified through the qualitative habitat evaluation index and will
conduct testing and monitoring in order to assess innovative conservation
technologies.
