2005 Conservation Security Program
The 2005 CSP Sign-up closed May 27, 2005.
CSP
is a voluntary program that provides financial and technical assistance to
promote the conservation and improvement of soil, water, air, energy, plant and
animal life, and other conservation purposes on Tribal and private working
lands. Working lands include cropland, grassland, prairie land, improved
pasture, and range land, as well as forested land that is an incidental part of
an agriculture operation.

- The Huron-Vermilion Watershed is located in Erie, Lorain,
Huron, Ashland, Richland, Crawford and Seneca Counties north central Ohio.
- The Grand Watershed is located in Lake, Ashtabula, Trumbull, Portage and
Geauga Counties.
- The Little Muskingum-Middle Island Watershed is located in Monroe, Noble,
Guernsey, and Washington Counties in Ohio and in a portion of West Virginia.
- The Hocking Watershed is located in Fairfield, Perry, Morgan, Athens,
Washington, Meigs, and Hocking Counties.
- The Upper Maumee Watershed is located in Defiance and Paulding Counties.
- A small portion of Fulton County, Ohio is located in the
Raisin Watershed
(Michigan).
- The St. Joseph Watershed is located in Paulding and Defiance Counties in
north west Ohio.
- The Auglaize Watershed is located in Defiance, Paulding, Putnam, Henry,
Allen, Hardin, Auglaize, Mercer and Van Wert Counties.
The CSP sign-up for the six Ohio watersheds selected in 2005 and the two
pioneer watersheds from 2004 will run from March 28 - May 27, 2005. Producers must complete the self-assessment workbook, which can be downloaded
from this website, obtained in print form from NRCS offices, on-line at
http://csp.sc.egov.usda.gov,
before scheduling an appointment with NRCS staff to apply for the CSP.
This initial self-assessment will help producers identify whether their
individual agricultural operation meets sign-up criteria and answer the
question, "Do I address minimum soil and water quality criteria on the land I
manage?”

PASTURED CROPLAND
For Ohio for 2005, Pastured Cropland is defined for Conservation Security
Program purposes as a pasture field that contains at least 90% area that is
Land Capability Class I – IV. Land area shall be determined based on soil
survey map unit acreage. Where possible digital soil maps and Toolkit/GIS
capabilities should be use to make determination when a visual evaluation
cannot give an obvious determination.
Fields that contains more than 10% Class V, VI VII land will be classified
as Pastureland, not Pastured Cropland. Determinations shall be made on a
field by field basis and based on field boundaries used for conservation
planning purposes.
Land designated as pastured cropland will receive a CSP payment at the
cropland rate regardless of the land use as pastureland.
