Watershed DescriptionThe Grand Watershed covers approximately 453,500 acres in Lake, Ashtabula, Trumbull, Geauga and Portage Counties in northeast Ohio. Land use in this watershed is mainly agricultural, residential and forest. Riparian forest areas with silver maple, eastern cottonwood, sycamore, black walnut and black willow are found along the Grand River. Extensive wetlands, floodplains and marsh complexes also exist in this watershed. In the Grand Watershed, there are about 1,292 farms covering about 136,368 acres. The average farm size is 97 acres. Primary crops include forage, soybeans and corn for grain. Other crops include wheat for grain, corn for silage and nursery stock. There are about 23,000 acres of pastureland in the Grand Watershed. Much of this is marginal pasture with some improved cool season grass pasture. Land Cover/Use
