PRIME FARMLAND LIST OF OHIO

INTRODUCTION

The following is a list of prime farmland map units for the state of Ohio. The list is prepared using USDA guidelines for identifying land that has the best combination of physical and chemical properties to produce sustained high yields when managed according to acceptable farming methods.

In addition to the listed criteria, some soils may be designated non-prime farmland because of other unfavorable conditions.

This list has been coordinated across state and regional boundaries to ensure that all areas of a specified soil agree in their designation as prime or non-prime farmland.

This list is updated annually to include newly recognized prime farmland map units. Only the most recent list should be used to determine if an area is prime or non-prime farmland.
